Students of all ages and skill levels took part throughout the day. GB Kids started off the day with a set of team challenges where points were earned for the winning teams! Each class had a point goal which would win an extra donation from Professor Simon if met – which they did! The kids rose to the challenge and their enthusiasm and determination was contagious, creating a supportive atmosphere across the whole academy.
From 12pm until 9pm we had adults on the mat constantly. We’re very grateful to all the Professors who gave their time to share their knowledge with us all and help us to raise money. A huge thank you to Professor Trev, Professor Jacob, Professor Phil, Professor Gavin, Professor Vanessa, and Professor Simon, who each took a teaching slot to keep the Grapple-a-Thon going.
Our initial goal for the fundraiser was £1500, and thanks to the generous contributions from students and their friends and family, we surpassed this target, collecting £3758.68. £3019.94 went directly to the E39 ward at QMC, which will help young patients who are undergoing cancer treatment and care on the ward. With this and our previous Grapple-a-Thon in 2022, we have raised an incredible £7046.79 for the Children’s Cancer ward at QMC, so a big thank you to you all for your support.
£738.74 was donated to the GB UK Ambassadors Programme, helping our Gracie Barra athletes to compete in the highest level of competition around the world.
We couldn’t have achieved this without the support of our Gracie Barra Arnold community. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and supported our latest Grapple-a-Thon. Your generosity and enthusiasm made the day a huge success.
We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future to continue to make a positive impact in our community. The Grapple-a-Thon was more than just a fundraiser. It showcased the power of community and the generosity of our members. We’re stronger together, united by our passion for Jiu-Jitsu and our commitment to making a difference.
