Gracie Barra's self-defence curriculum is designed to teach effective techniques for common situations and build confidence through increased awareness and skill development over time.
An integral part of Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu is our self-defence curriculum. Most of the people who walk through our doors are primarily interested in learning how to defend themselves in the event of a physical confrontation.
Throughout all of our children’s programmes and our Adult’s beginners (GB1) programme, there is a strong self-defence element. Our programmes follow the Gracie Barra curriculum which has been developed over our 38 year history by Master Carlos Gracie Jr. and a host of highly experienced black belts. Our curriculums are designed to give students a good foundation in both sport Jiu-Jitsu and self-defence.
Our GB Kid’s and GB1 programmes include techniques for dealing with common self-defence situations. Over time confidence is inspired in students as they build awareness of how to identify and avoid potentially dangerous situations and develop techniques to allow them to neutralise unavoidable threats.
At Gracie Barra Arnold, our focus is to give our students good, well-rounded Jiu-Jitsu. The foundation of this is learning self-defence Jiu-Jitsu and its principles. As students progress, these principles become integral to their entire Jiu-Jitsu journey.
Throughout the year we offer a number of special self-defence classes for the community. These include women’s only and anti-bullying classes for kids. This page will be updated with a link when we have any upcoming special classes.
